Katherine “Kate” Ruth Barger Brydon
Katherine “Kate” Ruth Barger Brydon, 100, of Mulberry Lane, Slippery Rock, passed away at 11:22 a.m. Friday at home with family.
She was born in Jackson Center, Pa., Aug. 19, 1916, the daughter of Edward Jennings and Agnes Mae Anderson Barger. Katherine grew up in Grove City where she graduated from Grove City High School in 1934. She was employed by Westlake Dress Shop, Grove City, for many years. In November 1952, she married Carl Joseph Brydon. He preceded her in death Nov. 26, 1969.
She is survived by one son William Alan Brydon and wife, Jaime; two daughters, Betse J. Brydon and partner James Lybarger and Tia J. Brydon and husband Dwight Yelton; eight grandchildren, Bethany Prince, P.J. Brydon, Elyssa Prince, Kelsea Brydon-Yelton, Brandi Granderson, Tessa Brydon-Yelton, Evan Long and Owen Long; and six great-grandchildren, Zackery Brydon, Hailey Lawson, Dakota Granderson, Kenlee Granderson, Cooper Johnson and Emery Stainbrook.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Katherine loved her friends and family. She enjoyed reading, cooking, playing cards and wildlife (particularly birds and turtles).
She was a member of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church for more than 60 years where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the King's Daughters. She was a longtime member of the Bartramian Audubon Society, the Grove City Eastern Star and the Slippery Rock Women's Club.
Katherine celebrated her 100th birthday last summer with friends and family.
BRYDON — Visitation for Katherine “Kate” Ruth Barger Brydon, who died Friday, May 19, 2017, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. The funeral service will be at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rand Edwards officiating. Interment will be at West Sunbury Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Slippery Rock Methodist King's Daughters or the Bartramian Audubon Society.The family would like to thank Michelle Schreckengost and the VNA Western Pennsylvania Hospice for their support and help to the family.
