Moniteau board OKs vo-tech budget

Estimated payment will be $21,445 less

CHERRY TWP — The Moniteau School Board Monday night approved the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School’s 2014-2015 proposed budget of $4.6 million.

The district’s estimated payment for that budget will be $273,820 which is $21,445 less than its payment for the current school year.

The decrease is because fewer Moniteau students will attend the vo-tech.

“We see a great value for our kids at vo-tech,” said Maynard Harvey, principal of Moniteau Junior/Senior High School.

He said this year’s class is Moniteau’s smallest graduating class in the past three years.

Seven school districts financially support the vo-tech with payments based, in part, on the number of students enrolled from each district.

Harvey also reported changes to the current school year calendar due to snow days. Baccalaureate was moved back to June 5 and commencement was moved back to June 6.

Superintendent George Svolos said the last day of school for all students will be June 6.

Brenda Knoll, Dassa McKinney Elementary School assistant principal, confirmed that the elementary band and choral concert will be at 7 p.m. April 30 at the high school.

The 2014-2015 school district calendar was approved by the school board. The first day of classes for students will be Aug. 25.
