Man charged with possession
BUTLER TWP — A convicted drug trafficker was arrested Sunday after police found him with dozens of bags of heroin and a bottle containing marijuana, authorities said.
The suspect, Shannon K. Jackson Sr., 33, of Pittsburgh, was being sought in connection with the theft of a woman’s hand bag from a township bar the night before when officers nabbed him at a city bar.
Jackson is in the Butler County Prison on several charges, including felony drug possession.
Township police say Jackson early Saturday morning was at the Belmont II bar at the Bon Aire Plaza where he allegedly stole a hand bag that was left on a table, according to court documents.
The bag had the owner’s identification cards, checkbook and $67 in currency.
Police said the theft was captured on surveillance video at the bar.
Early Sunday morning, Butler police got a tip that Jackson was at the Eau Claire Street Cafe.
City and township police went to the bar on Eau Claire Street and found Jackson, who matched the description of the hand bag thief.
Officers searched him, documents said, and found 31 stamp bags of suspected heroin, a pill bottle filled with suspected marijuana and six bundles containing an unspecified amount of currency.
Additionally, the search turned up the checkbook belonging to the hand bag owner.
Jackson was arraigned on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and misdemeanor theft-related charges.
He remains jailed on $75,000 bail while awaiting his preliminary hearing at 3 p.m. Thursday.
Court records show that Jackson has a lengthy criminal record.
In 2006, he was arrested for selling crack cocaine to a state police informant at Father Marinaro Park in Butler.
He pleaded guilty to a felony charge of delivery of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 6 to 12 months in the county prison followed by three years of probation.
His record also revealed that he has two other felony convictions, one for a 2006 burglary in Westmoreland County and one for illegally carrying a firearm in 2001 in Washington County.
