Tuesday — Police charged Jenna A. Orkwis, 33, of Butler with felony retail theft in connection with an alleged shoplifting case last month at the Kmart store in Pullman Square. Orkwis is accused of stealing clothing items valued at $50.97.Her criminal records, according to court documents, showed she has four prior retail theft convictions.Normally a summary or misdemeanor offense, retail theft is upgraded to a third-degree felony regardless of the stolen property's value, under state law, when a defendant has at least two prior arrests for the same crime.
7:09 p.m. Nov. 1 — A car driven by Chad Walter, 18, of Butler and a sport utility vehicle driven by Katrah Scialabba, 34, of Butler collided on Route 8 near CoGo's.
Thursday — Someone broke into Precision Auto on Freeport Road in Jefferson Township through a broken garage door panel and stole several inspection stickers. The burglary and theft happened between 7 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday.Thursday — Someone stole a Milwaukee brand 18-volt reciprocating saw from a state Department of Transportation truck parked in the 100 block of Linn Avenue in Winfield Township. The saw was stolen between 4:45 p.m. Wednesday and 6:45 a.m. Thursday.Wednesday — A 28-by-28-foot sewer grate belonging to Steve Janowski of Saxonburg was stolen from a property on the 300 block of Frazier Road in Jefferson Township between 7 p.m. Monday and 11:59 a.m. Tuesday.8:25 a.m. Wednesday — Adam R. Took, 26, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication after his car collided with a tractor-trailer on Route 422 in Franklin Township. Edward E. Hensel, 73, of Johnstown, Cambria County, was driving the rig.Monday — Someone stole various steel catch basins, valued at more than $2,000, from Great Belt Road in Jefferson Township. The property was stolen between 3 and 6:30 p.m. Monday.3:23 p.m. Monday — A car driven by Nagaraj Kotekal, 56, of Wexford and a tractor-trailer driven by Clifford J. Musgrave, 51, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, collided at Great Belt and Bonniebrook roads in Jefferson Township. Kotekal suffered a minor injury and was cited for a stop sign violation.2 p.m. Saturday — An unknown thief stole a purse, Apple iPhone charger, a hair straightener and six pairs of contact lenses from a vehicle at the Northview Apartments parking lot in Slippery Rock Township. A rock was thrown through the passenger window to break into the vehicle. The theft happened between 10 p.m. Oct. 20 and 2 p.m. Saturday.9 a.m. Nov. 2 — Someone broke into three vehicles in the visitors’ parking lot at University Village in Slippery Rock Township. Stolen in the break-in, between 1:30 a.m. Oct. 19 and 9 a.m. Nov. 2, were two Garmin global positioning systems units, a Kenwood amplifier and about $20 in coins.2 p.m. Oct. 19 — An unknown burglar stole all the copper pipes connected to a Clay Township home’s water supply, as well as gutters, downspouts, a red garden plow for a Wheel Horse tractor, lawn roller, Bonanza mower and numerous other items. The burglary at the home on Mahood Road happened between 8 a.m. Oct. 5 and 2 p.m. Oct. 19.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.
