Slippery Rock Rotary again will do its part to beautify the borough with its annual tulip planting event Saturday, Oct. 29.

Rotarians, along with volunteers from the community and university, will plant 8,000 tulips from 9 to 11 a.m. beginning in Memorial Park across from Dunkin’ at 304 S. Main St. That’s 8,000 tulips in just two hours, or more than one tulip per second.

Event organizer Judy Hughes said that already, about 40 people have signed up, making it more than likely that they’ll get all those tulips planted in the two-hour time frame. But the group will gladly accept more people.

The project began 11 years ago, and chairwoman Regina Greenwald says it’s about community and civic pride, conservation and improving the quality of life for borough residents. To volunteer or for information, call Greenwald at 302-242-5885 or Hughes at 724-992-1562.
