1:14 a.m. today — A Butler man was arrested on a warrant after he was found lying in the middle of Mercer Street near Stanley's Bakery.Police said Phillip Christopher Phillips, 20, was passed out from extreme intoxication. When emergency crews finally roused Phillips, he tried to stand up but immediately fell to the ground.He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of his high level of intoxication.Investigators, meanwhile, learned Phillips was wanted on a warrant in connection with an April simple assault case in the city.He was arrested and, after being released from the hospital, was taken to the Butler County Prison. When he was searched, a baggie of suspected marijuana was found in his wallet.Phillips is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, public drunkenness and underage drinking.12:02 a.m. Monday — Steven H. Dittmer, 32, was arrested for allegedly assaulting Krystal Ann Otto, 22, of Center Township during a reported domestic dispute at his West Brady Street apartment.The couple was arguing when the defendant allegedly struck Otto. She told police that when she tried to leave, Dittmer grabbed a kitchen knife and prevented her from getting to the door. A neighbor heard Otto's screams and called 911.Dittmer was arraigned on charges of simple assault and unlawful restraint and placed in the Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail.Monday — Benjamin Archangeli of Butler reported an unknown thief smashed a window and broke into his car overnight at the city's parking garage, and took a Garmin GPS device and an FM transmitter. The stolen property is valued at $190.
Monday — Police filed charges against Christina Marie Johnson, 23, of Butler for allegedly using another woman's name in a scheme to get out of a $40 gas bill.Police said Johnson on June 27 pumped 10 gallons or so of gas into her car at the Sheetz convenience store on Freeport Road. But when it came time to pay, she claimed she didn't have the money.The store manager took down the car's license plate and asked Johnson for her name. The suspect, however, gave another woman's name. She also allegedly signed the name of a Butler woman on an agreement form.By signing the form, Johnson promised to return to the store and pay for the gas within 24 hours. But by last Wednesday, she had not returned.Police were called and got a photograph of the suspect from the store's video security camera. Officers contacted the woman whose name Johnson allegedly commandeered. The victim recognized Johnson from the photograph.Johnson is charged with identity theft and retail theft.6:02 p.m. Saturday — Vehicles driven by Michael Warsing, 41, of Butler Township and Joshua Donelson, 20, of Fenelton collided on Schaffner Road between Beck Road and Bessemer Avenue.Warsing said he was using a cell phone when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center of the road into the path of Donelson's vehicle. Donelson veered against the guardrail but was unable to avoid the collision.Donelson suffered a minor cut to his left arm. Warsing was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road.8:24 a.m. Friday — A car driven by a 17-year-old Butler boy, who police did not identify, ran a red light at Route 68 and South Duffy Road and collided with another car driven by Carol Cowoski, 67, of Butler. The crash closed the road for about 30 minutes.
10:15 p.m. Monday — Two boys in Summit Academy escaped from the juvenile detention facility on Herman Road in Summit Township.Troopers were joined in the search for the boys by police in Butler and Butler Township police, as well as the academy staff.One of the suspected runaways was caught at a Route 8 convenience store in Butler Township. The other youth, described as black, wearing khaki shorts, a black polo shirt and white tennis shoes, was last seen going north toward Route 422.Anyone with information about the boy's whereabouts is asked to call state police at 724-284-8100.4:25 p.m. Sunday — A car driven by Jared J. Negley, 23, of Butler struck a guardrail on Route 38 near Glenwood Way in Center Township. Negley was cited for careless driving.7:35 p.m. Wednesday — Three teens were hurt when asport utility vehicle driven by Javelyn Hollefreund, 18, of Butler crashed into an embankment and rolled over, landing on its wheels on Old Route 422 in Franklin Township.Richard Wissinger, 18, of Butler, Cody Pistorius, 18, of Harrisville and a 16-year-old Butler girl, all who were riding in the vehicle, suffered minor injuries. Hollefreund was cited for driving too fast for conditions, careless driving and a lane violation.
7:03 a.m. Friday — Two people from Grove City were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Route 58 in Findley Township.The crash occurred when a sport utility vehicle driven by Catherine Gilliland, 22, of West Middlesex struck the rear of a car that was stopped in a construction zone.The crash forced the car, driven by Darin Hazlett, 39, of Grove City, into the back of another car that was also stopped.Karina Glaister, 18, of Grove City, who was driving the second car struck, and a child passenger, Corbyn Glaister-Wentworth, no age given, of Grove City, were treated at the Grove City Medical Center for minor injuries.
