John Hurley Madaus

John Hurley Madaus, 92, of Zelienople passed away on Tuesday while under the care of Wexford Health Center.

Born Oct. 28, 1925, in Worcester, Mass., he was the son of the late Frederick Madaus and Marguerite Hurley Madaus.

John proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, as a tail gunner in a B-24 bomber.

He graduated from Saint Francis University of Loretto, Pa., and received a master's degree in chemistry from Clark University in Massachusetts.

John was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, as well as the American Legion.

He was an avid windsurfer and swimmer.

He was employed by Callery Chemical and lived with his family in Zelienople for more than 50 years.

John leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Barbara M. Madaus and her husband, Francis Kostella; his grandchildren, Benjamin Kostella, Monica Madaus, Peter Madaus and his wife, Gwen Pechan, John Paul Madaus and his wife, Kathryn Huber; his sister, Barbara Hastings; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Sweeney Madaus, who passed away on Jan. 28, 2012; his son, Martin Madaus; and his brother, Gerald Madaus.

MADAUS — Friends of John Hurley Madaus, who died Tuesday, May 22, 2018, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2 W. Beaver St., Zelienople.He will be laid to rest privately at St. Gregory Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Moraine Preservation Fund, 118 N. Shore Drive, Portersville, PA 16051.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
