CRANBERRY TWP — A Zelienople man Sept. 9 waived to court charges stemming from an alleged drunken hit-and-run and subsequent chase incident in July.

Benjamin H. Logan, 27, was allegedly behind the wheel of a Honda sedan on July 26 when it rear-ended a southbound truck driven by Wayne Chechak on Route 19 near the intersection with American Way, according to the criminal complaint recently filed by township police.

Chechak called 911 and reported that the vehicle that hit him did a U-turn and was fleeing the scene at speeds of more than 100 mph.

He then followed Logan, who allegedly turned right onto North Boundary Road where he drove into a construction zone, disregarding a flagger who tried to tell him to stop.

He allegedly pulled off the road near the construction equipment and drove into a wooded area, however Chechak continued his pursuit. In a final attempt to flee, Logan allegedly put his car in reverse and crashed into the front of the truck, though he turned off his engine and remained at the scene after that, according to the complaint.

Logan is charged with driving under the influence, recklessly endangering another person for driving his car toward a construction flagger, accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle and reckless driving.

He was released from Butler County Prison on Aug. 5 after posting a $5,000 bond.
