West, Barry make all-tournament for BC3

Butler graduates Cody West and Jen Barry made their respective all-tournament teams, but the Butler County Community College basketball squads suffered double defeats at the Lakeland Tournament over the weekend.

The Pioneer men (0-4) took losses of 97-54 to Malone and 112-70 to Lakeland. BC3 had a 25-15 lead on Malone before being outscored 39-7 during the remainder of the first half. West had 26 points and eight assists against Malone while Tyler Copeland added 12 points and Tom Bruce 13 rebounds. West had 22 points and five assists vs. Lakeland with Michael Rummel getting 11 points.

The Pioneer women (0-4) were defeated 68-44 by Henry Ford (Mich.) and 71-54 by Lakeland. Shelby Johnston scored 14 points, Barry collected 11 points and seven assists, Kyleigh Custer 10 rebounds vs. Henry Ford.

Johnston had 28 points and 10 boards, Barry 13 points and Custer 10 rebounds against Lakeland. The Pioneers sank only eight of 21 free throws in that loss.

Men’s SoccerMillersville scored two second-half goals to upend No. 16 Slippery Rock University 2-1 in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Saturday.SRU’s goal was scored in the 24th minute by Brandon Chiu.Joe Agerskow made eight saves for The Rock (13-4-3).

Women’s SoccerSam Thornton headed in a free kick from teammate Lauren Impey to give SRU a 2-1 overtime win over Shippensburg Sunday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium in the NCAA playoffs.Impey scored in the 21st minute to help The Rock lead 1-0 at halftime.Dana O’Neill made one save to earn the win in net.The Rock (14-3-2) will face California (Pa.) for the Atlantic Region title Friday at the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y.

Women’s BasketballDespite 19 points and eight rebounds from Jazmyne Frost and 18 points and 11 rebounds from D’Asia Chambers, SRU dropped an 83-63 decision at Urbana (Oh.) University.

FootballGrove City College senior quarterback Brian Pell scored on a 13-yard run to earn for the Wolverines a 50-44 overtime win against rival Thiel Saturday in Greenville.The win allows the Wolverines (5-5, 3-5) to own the Mercer County Cup for a seventh consecutive year.Pell’s decisive run followed safety Joe Diani’s interception that halted Thiel’s overtime possession.Grove City was led on the ground by Steve Maskrey’s 117 yards and a touchdown.Anthony Ritchie caught six passes for 117 yards and two scores.The teams combined for 969 yards of offense, including 530 from Thiel (3-7, 3-5).
