Tuesday — Police accused Jessica Vinroe, 20, of Franklin Township of breaking into her mother's East Penn Street apartment while her mother was in the hospital for several days in July.Joyce Barnes was in the hospital between July 16 and 22, and when she returned home she discovered someone had been in her apartment. She found an unmade bed and an empty pizza box. She also noticed items were used or missing.Police later spoke with Vinroe, who admitted she had been in the apartment between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. July 17 and 10 a.m. July 18, according to court documents. She acknowledged she did not have her mother's permission to be in the apartment.Police said the defendant also admitted she took several items of clothes. Vinroe is charged with burglary, trespass and theft.Tuesday — Police charged Sandra Brown, 34, of Butler for allegedly forging a city man's signature to obtain money from an unspecified charitable organization. Brown is charged with forgery, identity theft and theft by deception.
5:25 p.m. Wednesday — An unidentified youth on a bicycle was hit by a car on Unionville Road in Franklin Township. The bike rider suffered minor injuries.The youth pulled in front of the car, driven by Richard Shaffer, 37, of Portersville, and was struck. No charges were filed.3:10 p.m. Wednesday — A bicycle was found on Kiester Road in Slippery Rock Township. The owner can claim the bike by calling the police barracks at 724-284-8100.11:10 a.m. Wednesday — A 16-year-old Slippery Rock girl is accused of threatening a family member, 19-year-old Kayla Ward, with a butcher knife during an altercation at a Muddy Creek Drive home in Brady Township. No one was injured in the incident.The suspect, who police did not identify, faces terroristic threats and other charges in juvenile court.Wednesday — Police are investigating several reported cases of mail stolen out of mailboxes in Center and Clearfield townships. The thefts happened Tuesday or Wednesday.In Center Township, mail was stolen from three boxes along Marvel and South drives and Shannahan Road. In Clearfield Township, mail was stolen from two boxes along McGrady Hollow Road.
Wednesday — Police reported criminal charges are pending against a 15-year-old Rimersburg boy suspected of taking a sport utility vehicle on a joy ride with two friends Aug. 21 in Madison Township. The boy, who police do not identify, later lost control of the SUV and crashed.Apolice report said the teen took the vehicle without the permission of owner Melissa Lynnn Custer of Rimersburg.
4:10 p.m. Wednesday — ANew Jersey woman was killed and her husband seriously injured when their motorcycle crashed on Interstate 80 in Lackawannock Township.Barbara E. Sparks, 47, of Manchester was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a helmet while a passenger on the motorcycle.Danny W. Sparks, 53, who was driving the cycle and was wearing a helmet, was flown with major injuries to Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to a police report.Investigators said Danny Sparks was eastbound on I-80 and was rounding a bend when a trailer his bike was towing went out of control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road. The cycle slammed into a guardrail, throwing both riders onto the road.East End volunteer firefighters and Superior ambulance assisted police at the scene.Wednesday — Unknown thieves between 7 and 8:45 p.m. stole a Lanzer Max Pro 282 amplifier from a vehicle at Prime Outlets in Springfield Township.1:05 a.m. Monday — Authorities caught a 17-year-old boy who had escaped several hours earlier from the George Junior Republic juvenile detention facility in Pine Township. Police said the boy from Philadelphia, who they did not identify, left the facility around 9 p.m. Sunday. He was found walking on Route 58 and caught about 3 miles away from George Junior Republic.
Wednesday — Long-handle branch trimmers, a large roll of geotextile and 15 gallons of gasoline were stolen from a construction site on Stoughton Road, about 1 mile south of Route 108 in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.The stolen property, owned by the Mekis Construction Corp. of Fenelton, was taken between May 15 and Wednesday.
