Mary E. Fair, 84, of Meridian died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 7, 1924, in Rockdale, a daughter of the late Jesse and Grace Lee Daubenspeck.

Mary was a retired nurses aide at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She worked for 24 years until her retirement in 1989. She also was a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

She was the oldest living member of the Meridian United Presbyterian Church. She also was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and the AARP.

Her husband, Howard J. Fair, whom she married Jan. 18, 1946, preceded her in death July 23, 1998. A brother, a sister and two great-grandchildren also preceded her.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Richard (Catherine) Cox of Prospect; her son, Howard J. Fair Jr., U.S. Army retired, of Reisterstown, Md.; a brother, Forest Daubenspeck of Wheatridge, Colo.; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Campbell of Lakewood, Colo., Mrs. Norma Pritts of Parker and Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Gould of Butler; three grandchildren, Jennifer J. Cox and Tammy L. Walls, both of Butler, and Robert E.L. Fair, U.S. Army, Fort Bragg, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Joseph and Cody Walls and Leland Matthew Fair.

<B>FAIR </B>—<B> </B>Friends of Mary E. Fair, who died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Meridian U.P. Church with the Rev. John Porter, interim pastor, officiating. Inurnment will take place at Butler County Memorial Park.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
