Butler PoliceTuesday — Claude Theodore Taylor Sr., 60, was arrested after he allegedly attacked Teresa Horniacek at their home in the 400 block of Virginia Avenue.Police were initially called about 11:35 p.m. Monday to Butler Memorial Hospital where Horniacek went for treatment of injuries in the alleged assault. She told officers that Taylor, with whom she has a relationship, beat her several hours earlier.She recounted that he punched her and knocked her out the front door before dragging her back into the home, according to court documents. The defendant allegedly beat her on the side of the head and later grabbed a kitchen knife.Horniacek said she ran upstairs and laid on the bed. Taylor eventually went upstairs and told her that he was “going to kill her and cut her into little pieces,” documents said.Police in speaking to Horniacek noted her injuries: a missing front tooth, cut lip and bruised left elbow. She also had dried blood on her chin and on her shirt sleeves.Officers found the suspect at his home. He admitted pushing the victim but denied her other allegations. Police said that while at the home they noticed blood drops on the living room carpet and in the doorway, as well as dried blood on the wall and on a pair of shoes.Taylor was arraigned on two counts of simple assault and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.
Butler Township Police12:29 a.m. Monday — Vehicles driven by Rebekah S. Aust, 39, of Saxonburg and Joseph Skal, 53, of Butler collided at New Castle and South Duffy roads. No one was hurt but both vehicles had to be towed.Police cited Aust for making an improper left turn.9:54 p.m. Saturday — An obstructed windshield was blamed for a one-vehicle crash on the 100 block of Williams Road. The driver, Thomas S. Smith, 42, of Butler, suffered minor injuries.Police said Smith was distracted by an obstructed view from his windshield because of a faulty defroster and ran into a mailbox and fire hydrant. His vehicle ended atop the hydrant.Butler Fire District 3 assisted police at the scene. Smith was cited for driving a vehicle with unsafe equipment.
State Police, Butler8:30 p.m. Tuesday — A sport utility vehicle struck and killed a deer on Route 422 just west of Summit Park Lane in Summit Township. The police report did not identify the driver.4:22 p.m. Tuesday — One person was hurt in a one-vehicle rollover wreck in Washington Township. A police report was not available this morning.The vehicle overturned on Christie Road when the driver lost control of it near Callico Road. The driver was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.The North Washington Volunteer Fire Department assisted police at the sene.
State Police, Kittanning8:27 p.m. Monday — A 58-year-old Renfrew man, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Route 28 south in North Buffalo Township.The man also was found with suspected drugs and other contraband.Police said charges are pending results.3:15 p.m. Monday — Barbara A. Cobbett, 57, was hurt when she swerved her sport utility vehicle to avoid a deer and struck an embankment on Mahoning Road in Madison Township. The extent of her injury was not known.Police cited Cobbett for driving without a license and failing to immediately notify police of an accident.
