Suspected drug dealerarrested Saturday
A suspected drug dealer — and felon — was arrested after Butler police caught him outside Pullman Park carrying purported crack cocaine and heroin.
Police said 33-year-old Brian L. Edwards of Summit Township also had nearly $400 in his pants pocket when they nabbed him about 5:20 p.m. Saturday.
Edwards is charged with two counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana.
Additionally, police cited him for public drunkenness. He was placed in the Butler County Prison and released Monday after posting $50,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing was not immediately scheduled.
A police officer monitoring the security camera at Pullman Park spotted a man, later identified as Edwards, walking on the road on the west side of the park, according to court documents.
The officer believed the suspect could have a weapon or drugs in his shorts pocket.
Police stopped Edwards outside the park. He appeared intoxicated and refused to give officers his name, documents said. He also would not take his left hand out of his shorts pocket.
Sgt. William Mayhugh eventually grabbed the suspect’s hand and arrested him. A search turned up 15 individually wrapped rocks of crack and 26 stamp bags of heroin, documents said.
Police also found Edwards with a small baggie of marijuana and $390.
Officers later took the suspect to the state police barracks in Butler Township, where Live Scan, an electronic method that links to the FBI’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, was used to identify him.
Edwards’ criminal records showed that he has felony drug convictions in Butler County in 2004 and in Dauphin County in 2002.
