BUTLER TWP — Butler High School was evacuated this morning due to a leaking gas main outside the building off New Castle Road.

Butler School District Acting Superintendent William Pettigrew said the odor was detected inside the building through a vent.

Students were temporarily evacuated to the intermediate high school auditorium. Pettigrew said the high school students would be sent home while the problem is investigated by Peoples Gas.

The Butler school district website canceled all afternoon and evening activities at the high school, including the boys basketball game. Sessions 2 and 3 at the vo-tech were also canceled.
