Accessible reading club begins at Zelie library

A new reading club for children ages 5 to 12 of all reading ability levels is being held Mondays at 4:30 p.m. at the Zelienople Area Public Library.

The nontraditional book club is designed for struggling readers, readers with disabilities and reluctant readers. Unlike a typical book club, participants will not be asked to bring prepared readings for discussions. Sessions will include learning how to find reading materials at the library that reflect interests and ability levels and practicing independent reading skills with group support.

The club will demonstrate how to interact with stories in nontraditional formats including audiobooks, e-books, large-print books, Wonder Books and Playaways. Reading tools such as whisper phones and highlight strips will be available, while exploring print materials and audio materials will be utilized whenever possible to provide equitable access to all club materials.

The goal of this program is to enable those who need some extra assistance in reading to share in the joy of stories both for fun and for learning.

This program is on a drop-in basis, and no registration is required. Contact the library at 724-452-9330 for more information.
