Sophia J. Gostey, 91, of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away at 4:55 p.m. Sunday at Austin Woods.

Mrs. Gostey was born Sept. 9, 1917, in Beckley, W.Va., the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Horvath) Mondell.

Sophia lived in Poland, Ohio, for the past 20 years after moving there from Butler.

She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman, Ohio.

Mrs. Gostey was preceded in death March 4, 1985, by her husband, Anthony R. Gostey, whom she married July 3, 1933.

Sophia is survived by one daughter, Eileen (Kenneth) Riley of Boardman; one son, Robert (Donna) Gostey of Canfield, Ohio; one sister, Goldie (Steve) Daniels of McKeesport; one brother, Elmer Mondell of Coraopolis; four grandchildren, Robert Riley, Lori (Scott) Riley Foss, Laura (Dennis) Gostey Parise and Mark (Erica) Gostey; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew E. Foss, Justin R. Riley, Brandon M. Riley, Alec William Parise, Olivia Paige Parise, Nathan Robert Gostey, and Emma Lauren Gostey; and many nieces and nephews.

Sophia was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Locktosh and Velma Barone; one brother, Joseph Mondell; and one grandson, Robert Aaron Gostey.

<B>GOSTEY</B> — Friends of Sophia J. Gostey, who died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home</B>, in North Lima, Ohio, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with Rev. Philip E. Rogers officiating.
