Pennsylvania has become one of the top 20 states for the number of residents who have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination, according to the governor's office.

Gov. Tom Wolf said the state's rank improved from 30th to 17th in the number of first doses administered since Feb. 24 when he ordered vaccine providers to administer 80% of their vaccine allocations within seven days of receipt.

Pennsylvania and New York are tied for 17th place, with 27% of residents who have received at least one shot, Wolf said.

“This is tremendous progress,” Wolf said. “I'm proud of everyone who has a part in this huge team effort to get Pennsylvanians vaccinated.”

Wednesday's report from the Department of Health says 4,510,213 vaccinations have been administered, including 2,918,012 partial vaccinations and 1,592,201 full vaccinations.

In the county, 23,296 people have been partially vaccinated and 33,145 people have been fully vaccinated.

In addition, the department reported 4,667 new positive cases, which raises the statewide total to 996,617 among the state's 12.8 million residents since the beginning of the pandemic.

The 37 new cases reported in the county increases the total number of cases to 9,432 among the county's 187,853 since the pandemic began.

Butler Memorial Hospital reported having 15 COVID-19 patients, including four in the intensive care unit.

No new deaths were reported in the county, but the hospital reported one person died March 23.

The health department reported 48 new deaths statewide, bringing the total to 24,876.

There are 1,631 people hospitalized, including 341 patients in intensive care. The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is about 4,500 lower than it was at the peak in December 2020 and below what it was at the height of the spring peak in May 2020. However, the decrease in hospitalized patients has stalled.

In licensed nursing and personal care homes, 68,993 residents and 14,132 employees have COVID-19. Of the total deaths in the state, 12,889 have been among nursing or personal care facility residents.
