Petronilla 'Pat' Russell

Petronilla "Pat" J. Russell of the Caring Place in Franklin, formerly of 5405 Pittsburgh Road, Barkeyville, died at 10:50 a.m. Saturday.

She was born May 12, 1918, in Garrido, Camaguey, Cuba, while her American parents, Fridolin and Emma Beary Broschart, were living there.

They returned to the United States in 1919 and settled in President Township, Venango County, and she attended the Sage Run School.

Later, her family moved to New Castle, where she attended the Round Street School and the St. Joseph School. She graduated from Union High School in 1935. Earlier she spent two years at Mount Alvernia Prep in Etna, near Pittsburgh.

She later moved to Oil City to live with her sister, Mary B. Goodman and worked for the Rev. and Mrs. Edward J. Kuhlman. Later, she worked at the City Hotel, where she met Albert G. Russell. They were married April 23, 1938, at St. Joseph Rectory in New Castle. He died March 7, 1985.

She was a member of the Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City, where she participated in the craft group for many years, helping to make quilts for the church raffles.

Mrs. Russell was a gardener and she and her husband raised and sold apples, pears, strawberries, corn, other vegetables and gladiolus bouquets. She was known for her delicious pies and other baked goods.

For many years, she served on the election board in Barkeyville.

She is survived by five children, Sylvia M. Coast of Pone Lane, Franklin, Albert E. and Jeanne King Russell of Anaheim, Calif., Ronald G. and Helen McCune Russell of Tucson, Ariz., Kenneth A. and Nancy Gayetty Baker Russell of Rocky Grove Avenue, Franklin, and Dr. Bruce W. and Sue Dickert Russell of Weathervane Drive, Slippery Rock.

She also is survived by 16 grandchildren, Richard M. Coast, Julie C. Miller, Dr. Douglas A. Coast, Russell G. Coast, Darren L. Coast, Jennifer Coast-Doyle, Janice C. Newell, Garrick A. Russell, Tanya B. McFarland, Tara R. Etheridge, Sean K. Russell, Matthew M. Russell, Ryan J. Russell, Regan R. Mooney, Stephanie R. Kennedy and Cynthia R. Graham; two step-grandchildren, Michael Baker and Greg Baker; 20 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

Two sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Broschart and Helen B. George of New Castle, and many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Richard M. Coast; nine sisters and brothers, Mary B. Goodman, Emma B. Fletcher, Marcella Broschart, Sister Fridolin (Bertha) Broschart, Sister Emma (Angeline) Broschart, Teresa B. Zambelli, Dolores R. Thomas, Joseph F. Broschart and Fridolin "Fred" Broschart; her special friend, Peter Talak; and a step-great-grandson, Douglas J. Miller.

<B>RUSSELL </B>— Visitation for Petronilla "Pat" J. Russell, who died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Jamison Funeral Home</B>, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of the Beloved Disciple with the Rev. Mark A. Hoffman, church pastor, officiating. Burial will be held in Mt. Irwin Cemetery, Irwin Township, Venango County.Memorials may be made to the Church of the Beloved Disciple, 321 N. Broad St., Grove City, PA 16127; Barkeyville Community Park, 1576 Barkeyville Road, Grove City, PA, 16127; or to the charity of one's choice.
