Police conduct probe ongoing
ZELIENOPLE — The investigation of misconduct among Police Chief Jim Miller and two borough police officers continues.
Lisa Brown, the alleged victim of the verbal misconduct, addressed borough council Monday evening.
“I’m not going to go away,” Brown said. “I’m standing firm because it’s the principal for me.”
Brown said in April she was accused by two unnamed borough officers of being on drugs and alcohol, which she tested negative for. She said the officers used profane language when questioning her.
Brown said she tried handling the situation “informally,” but eventually submitted a written complaint to Miller.
Her second complaint said Miller acted in “a completely unprofessional, unwarranted and downright abusive behavior” and “screamed at the top of his lungs” when she tried submitting the first complaint to him.
She said she has witnesses to both incidents.
Mayor Tom Oliverio said this is the first such case he has seen in about 20 years. He is leading the investigation into the accusations against Miller.
“It shouldn’t take very long,” Oliverio said of the investigation.
Brown said she finds it “hard to believe” that no other complaints have been submitted to the mayor in that time frame.
“It’s like if you own a business; somebody’s going to complain,” Brown said. “I know there were complaints made to the department.”
Oliverio also responded to Brown’s claims that more complaints have been made, saying it’s all “chain of command.”
“The officers will sometimes handle these complaints before I ever get them,” he said.
Brown at Monday’s meeting asked, “Is it appropriate for your chief of police to abuse me on top of your initial police officers?”
Borough solicitor Bonnie Brimmeier said the matter is being addressed and advised council to not provide comment.
“I think we’ve had enough discussion,” Brimmeier said. “This is not the time and place for this. It’s not a fair question.”
“I’m still going to come back to get answers,” Brown responded.
Miller made no comment at Monday’s meeting.
