Karen Ann Mesner
Karen Ann Mesner, 77, of Renfrew left this earthly life on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at Heritage Valley Health Systems/Beaver, surrounded virtually by her loving family.
She was born on June 2, 1943, in Butler, and was the daughter of the late James and Helen Murphy.
Her fondest childhood memories are growing up around her aunts and cousins.
She was a 1961 graduate of Butler High School.
After meeting at the Butler Farm Show through Karen’s cousins on April 8, 1964, she married her love, Charles L. Mesner Jr.
During Chuck’s service in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam, they traveled back and forth across the states in their Volkswagen Bug. Finally settling in Butler, they raised a family, owned and operated Mesner Service Co. (a plumbing/HVAC business), and retired to watch their grandkids grow.
Karen had a feisty spirit, loved to read, paint with watercolors, eat popcorn while watching “Star Wars” and the Oscars with her son, and got her greatest enjoyment from being with family.
She was loved by the church family of First Bible Baptist Church in Harmony, who shared with her the love of Jesus Christ and His saving grace through Christ alone.
Mrs. Mesner was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years.
She is survived by her two children, Corinne (Mark) Nickerson of Renfrew, and Steven (Corinne) Mesner of Encino, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, Nathan (Stephanie) Nickerson, Zachary (Abigail) Nickerson, Eli (Emily) Nickerson, Rebecca Nickerson, Hannah Nickerson, Benjamin Nickerson, Sophia Mesner, Jeremiah/Miggs Nickerson, Ava Mesner and Lydia Nickerson; one great-granddaughter, Hadassah Noel Nickerson; and a sister, Diane Murphy of Butler.
