11:25 a.m. Monday — David Lee Cupps, 67, of Butler was arrested for allegedly assaulting 59-year-old Dorothy Billman of Butler during a domestic dispute on North Washington Street.Billman told police that the defendant hit her while the two were in a car stopped in front of the YMCA. Cupps also is accused of grabbing Billman by the neck, a police report said, and pulling her out of the car.The suspect drove away but police stopped him on South Washington Street near West Jefferson Street. While police attempted to handcuff him, Cupps tried to pull away and officers had to "physically subdue" him, according to a police report.Cupps was arraigned on charges of simple assault and resisting arrest and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.May 12 — A 15-year-old boy is accused of trying to assault a neighbor during an argument in a city neighborhood. Police said the alleged victim, who they did not identify, used pepper spray to defend himself when the boy charged onto his porch. The teen, police said, is charged with defiant trespass, harassment and disorderly conduct.
6:01 a.m. Monday — A car driven by James Dawson, 52, of Sligo, Clarion County, and a pickup truck driven by John Ruby, 51, of Harmony collided at Meridian and Whitestown roads. The crash closed the road for about 50 minutes. There were no injuries, police said.2:45 p.m. May 12 — A 17-year-old Butler boy was cited for trespassing after he went to the Butler Intermediate High School on consecutive days despite being barred from the school property in January.
10 p.m. Sunday — Marisa Smith, 45, of Karns City was seriously injured when the car she was driving struck a tree along Main Hill Road in Fairview Township. Police said Smith, who was not wearing a seat belt, was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.5 a.m. Sunday — A car driven by Edward J. Schall Jr., 36, of Harmony struck a utility people along Camp Run Road near Dutch Road in Lancaster Township. Police said Schall, who fled the scene, faces hit-and-run and other charges.Saturday — An unknown burglar stole numerous unspecified items from an unlocked garage at a Cherokee Drive home in Center Township. The burglary occurred between 11 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.
