20 years of pain for families, community

July 17th came and went the same as any other day for most of us. But July 17th has been a most devasting date for the past 20 years for the families of Shawn Baur and Scott Fosnaught.

Most of you will recall that was the night the two young men attended a party near Cashdollar Road but would never return home again. Their bodies would be found along the road.

One was barely alive and the other already deceased when they were discovered. He passed away shortly after.

State police were never able to solve the crime and after 20 years if there was any evidence it would seem unlikely it remains.

The only hope to solve this horrible crime is most likely a guilty conscience. Obviously, the person who hit them knows it. Most likely family members of the person noticed damage to the vehicle which caused two deaths.

Someone has been walking around with a tremendous amount of guilt on their shoulders and in their heart.

We don’t expect someone to come forward after all this time and admit guilt, but we do think maybe someone out there has a strong suspicion of what happened that awful night in 2002. We hope that person or people will be brave and come forward even if it is late.

Shawn and Scott had families that loved them. The families deserve some closure. The community deserves closure as well.

Perhaps one last attempt by the state police and this one including the FBI may just be fortunate enough to find that missing link which is needed to tie the other clues together.

Twenty years of not knowing and wondering is far more than any parent should endure. If you know anything at all about that night; please come forward.
