ELLWOOD CITY — ESB Bank, the largest subsidiary of ESB Financial, recently hired two vice presidents.

•:Larry Bittner has been hired as first vice president and senior commercial lender. Bittner will be responsible for developing and maintaining commercial lending relationships in Western Pennsylvania.

He has more than 30 years of banking experience in consumer and commercial lending.

• Carolyn McBride has been hired as assistant vice president and assistant commercial credit manager. McBride will assist the credit manager and commercial lenders in the analysis, underwriting and processing of loan transactions and the maintenance of existing lending relationships. She has 20 years of banking experience and most recently served as a commercial relationship manager at Mars National Bank.

Donation provides fire school accessCANONSBURG, Washington County — Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and NiSource Gas Transmission & Storage’s Columbia Gas Transmission Division, provided money to regional first responders for the companies annual fire school.Members of the Sarver Volunteer Fire Department were among the 13 departments who attended the school.The companies gave a total of $8,000 for the volunteers to attend.

Doctor presents scouts with checkCRANBERRY TWP — Dr. Stuart Surkosky, owner of Care Chiropractic Center in Connoquenessing Township, presented the Boy Scouts of America Moraine Trails Council with a check for $10,600 at the scout’s Distinguished Citizens Award dinner at the Pittsburgh Marriott North.The money was raised at the Kids Day America event in May.

Harrisville quarry gets safety awardKITTANNING — Allegheny Mineral’s Harrisville quarry has been awarded the 2011 Safety Award from the Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association.The national award for surface mine safety within Group VI Surface Metal/Non-Metal Mines is for achieving a perfect safety record during 2011. The quarry employees completed 74,161 hours incident free in 2011.

Yankee Candle CEO joins rue21 boardWARRENDALE, Allgheny County — Harlan Kent, Yankee Candle president and CEO, has joined rue21 clothing retailer’s board of directors.
