Clair George Dyer Jr., 85, of Liberty Township, Mercer County, passed away at the Trinity Living Center in Grove City at 6:45 a.m. Monday.

He was born in Harrisville on Aug. 8, 1927, to Clair George Dyer Sr. and Margaret Wilma Hartley.

He married Doris Irene Measel on Sept. 30, 1955. They had been married 57 years.

He attended the West Unity Church in Harrisville.

He began his working career at Cooper Bessemer in Grove City. He later worked for Montgomery Block in Harrisville, and Meadow Gold and Campbell’s Dairy, both in Grove City. He worked for General Electric in Grove City for 10 years and also at Mercer Railroad Car.

He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandkids and great-grandkids, hunting deer and turkey, fishing, gardening, helping out in his daughter’s greenhouse, cutting wood, tinkering in the garage, playing cards, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, Doris I. “Dorie” Dyer of Grove City; one daughter, Lisa M. Keck (husband Bruce) of Clarks Mills; five sons, James L. (wife Nancy) Dyer of Keystone Heights, Fla., Larry P. (wife Desiree) Dyer of Noble, Okla., Thomas A. (companion Ann) Dyer of Polk, Jerry R. (wife Cathy) Dyer of Stoneboro and Todd E. (wife Karen) Dyer of Mercer; one sister, Mildred Quinette of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Crystal Keck Sindlinger, Cory Keck, Robert Keck, J.D. Dyer, Nicole Dyer and Shane Dyer; and seven great-grandchildren, with another expected anytime soon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marsha; and two sisters, Dorothy Bovard, Louise Dyer.

DYER — Visitation for Clair George Dyer Jr., who died Monday, Dec. 31, 2013, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Boyd Smith, pastor of the West Unity Church, Harrisville.

Interment will be in New Hope Orthodox Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cherry Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Awareness or to the First Unity Church, 400 Unity Road, Harrisville, PA 16038.
