Summerville

Norman Fred Summerville, 92, of Main Street, Rimersburg, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Sunday at the Clarview Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Sligo, after an illness.

He was born in Rimersburg, Dec. 30, 1916, a son of the late Earl N. Summerville and Mary Carrie Stewart Summerville.

He was a lifelong member of the Rimersburg Presbyterian Church and had attended the Sandy Hollow Elementary School.

He was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Union School Board and the American Legion in Rimersburg, and he was a 47-year founding member of the Rimersburg Municipal Authority.

He had been recognized and honored several times for his tireless efforts concerning improving the Rimersburg area.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the landing forces during the Normandy Invasion in France. He served with Headquarters Battery Field Artillery 29 Division in Europe.

He had been employed as an auto mechanic at Barger Chevrolet and Youker Chevrolet, both in Rimersburg, and then with Heilman and Davis American Motors in East Brady for many years. He began his mechanic career with Randolph Motors in Rimersburg after World War II.

Surviving are 12 nieces and nephews, Marie Olszewski of Saxonburg, Norman Summerville of Butler, George Summerville of North East, Pa; Marilyn Callihan of Mercer, Carolyn Powell of Cabot, Phil Summerville of Fenelton, Dave Summerville of Chicora, Fred Summerville of Butler, Evelyn Weiland of Butler, Dean Summerville of West Sunbury, Janet Shook of Rimersburg and Nancy Shook of Curllsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Paul, Clark, Joseph Claud, Irvin, Ross and Harry Frank Summerville; and two infant sisters.

<B>SUMMERVILLE </B>— Friends of Norman Fred Summerville, who died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B> in Rimersburg. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. John S. McCall, pastor of the Rimersburg Presbyterian Church, officiating.
