Butler Art Center blooms with colorful but brief garden show

Beverly Hilgert's “A Rose from My Past” along with more garden art and vendors are part of a show through Saturday at the Butler Art Center downtown.

The Butler Art Center is hosting a garden show featuring art and vendors through Saturday. A reception will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Called a “gargantuan, grandiose gardening get-together” by gallery manager Stephen Haley, the show has the “potential to be one of the most interactive shows that has something for everybody,” he said.

“Even if you don't paint, you have probably eaten a vegetable or picked a pretty flower for a loved one. To see the inspiration for the art and the art itself juxtaposed is very exciting ...,” Haley said.

Vendors like Honey Sweet Apiaries will be taking part, and artwork will feature a variety of media and garden themes.

Other upcoming exhibits planned at the Art Center are:

-“S Cubed,” three artist friends whose names start with “S,” Aug. 7 to 10

-Woodturners Show, Aug. 14 to 17

-History of the Written Word, Sept. 4 to 7.

The Art Center, 344 S. Main St., is open regularly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays, except holidays.

Admission is free. Call 724-283-6922 or visit ButlerArtCenter.org.
