Big band concert comes to Zelienople on Sunday
ZELIENOPLE — The TMG Big Band, formerly known as the Trinity Jazz Orchestra, will be in concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Strand Theater.
“Sounds of the Big Bands” featuring the TMG Big Band and vocalist Andrew Karns takes the audience on a musical trip back to the days when swing music was at the top of the charts.
This show touches on many of the amazing artists and groups that defined the era, from Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington, to Count Basie, Buddy Rich and Doc Severinson.
Karns is a vocalist, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Western Pennsylvania.
He has been singing and playing saxophone since childhood with a particular interest in his father's big band record collection. As a kid he would record jazz LP's and radio shows to cassette, playing along to every tune on his saxophone.
The TMG Big Band, founded in 2003, includes music educators and other professional musicians who bring their talents together to play the best music of the big band genre.
A focus on fun for entertainment and educational learning for both young students and adults is a primary mission for the TMG Big Band.
Tickets are available at the Strand box office or online at www.thestrandtheater.org.
