A free Outdoor Discovery series at Alameda Park, by the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department, will feature “DCNR Presents: Creek Critters” Thursday in the Carousel Shelter and Playthings Etc. on Aug. 8 in theOddfellows Shelter. Succop Nature Park, 185 W. Airport Road, Penn Township, will host Birds and More nature walks at 9 a.m. Thursdays. The newly renovated T.W. Phillips Barn features a WindStax turbine that supplies electricity to the building, a nature store, classroom space, a large upstairs area that can be used for programs or rentals, and numerous bathrooms. Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, will be the site of moth activities at 8 p.m. Saturday and Life Below the Prairie at 2 p.m. Sunday. McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, just over the county line into Lawrence County off Route 422, has the historic gristmill open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, including Labor Day. Tours are given at 1 and 2 p.m. Admission is free. Call 724-368-8811.
