New mental health provider well used at Seneca Valley
JACKSON TWP — The new mental health provider approved by the Seneca Valley Board of Education a few months ago is a good resource for students, staff and their families, a district official said.
Jeff Roberts, the district’s director of special services, said 140 students have been referred to or contacted Care Solace for help with their anxiety, depression, substance-abuse issue or other mental health problems.
Roberts said 30 student are currently in care with Care Solace.
The company will continue to be available to students throughout the summer.
“I see it as a success,” Roberts said.
He said parents appreciate Care Solace professionals, who help families navigate the process of getting care for their students.
The company also can arrange therapy more quickly than those making appointments with swamped local mental health providers.
Roberts said if a telehealth appointment would be appropriate for a student, staff member or their families, Care Solace will line one up that might practice an hour away from the district.
Mike Jacobs, a Seneca school board member, said 140 students in three months time is an average of two people per day.
“We should all be advocating for more mental health resources,” said Tracy Vitale, district superintendent.
