Sgt. 1st Class Paul T. Gillman

Sgt. 1st Class Paul T. Gillman of Penn Township went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Easter Sunday.

He was born Feb. 20, 1942, to John Jacob Gillman and Lettina Hays Gillman.

After graduating from Butler High School in 1960, Paul joined the U.S. Army and served at Fort Hood and later as a medic in the U.S. Army Reserve at the 99th RSC, where he completed the remainder of his 30 years of military service before his retirement in May 1996.

Later, Paul was an active member of the Penn Township Veterans Association and frequently participated in veteran activities and parades in Pennsylvania and Colorado.

Paul graduated from Slippery Rock State College in 1972 with an undergraduate and graduate degree in health and physical education.

Following his education, Paul taught in Penn Hills School District for 27 years as a health and physical education teacher at both the high school and elementary levels, before retiring in June 1999.

Paul was a devout Christian and served the Lord wherever he traveled. During his time on Earth, he served as head deacon at both Gospel Fellowship PCA and the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Slate Lick.

Most recently, Paul was a member of Middlesex PCA. Paul was an active member of Clan Hay USA, where he served many roles including convener, regional representative and vice president, participating in Scottish games festivals and annual meetings across the USA.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, John Jacob Gillman and Lettina Hays Gillman; his stepmother, Mary Williams Gillman; and his first wife, Nancy Carol Brown Gillman.

He leaves behind his wife, Abigail Teed Powell Gillman; and his children, Daniel Gillman, Wren Gillman and Beth Gillman (Jeremy) Brett; and his grandchildren, Cody Gillman, Yvette Ferragonio and Madeline Brett; and many in-laws, nephews and nieces.

Paul's love of the outdoors and constant search of the perfect 70-degree day brought him to spend summers in beautiful Pitkin, Colo., and winters in Tavernier, Fla., where he made countless life-long friends.

Paul was an avid genealogist and spent years chasing our family lineages across continents and centuries.

GILLMAN — Friends of Sgt. 1st Class Paul T. Gillman, who died Sunday, April 1, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Boylan Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with interment to follow at Butler Memorial Park.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with Paul's family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
