Michael Bolton, Texas Tenors perform in Westminster series
NEW WILMINGTON — The Westminster College Celebrity Series kicks off the 2019-20 season with “An Evening with John Lloyd Young” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 in Orr Auditorium on campus.
Young, a film, stage and concert artist, will take the stage with his repertoire of classic pop and rhythm and blues.
As the original “Frankie Valli” in Broadway's Tony Award-winning Best Musical “Jersey Boys,” Young is a Tony Award and Grammy Award winner, a multiplatinum recording artist and a Presidential Appointee.
He was picked to reprise that role in the Warner Bros./Clint Eastwood film adaptation.
On Sept. 21, Young will sing not only songs by the Four Seasons, but also by other giants of the '50s, '60s and '70s and showstoppers that shaped his earliest Broadway aspirations.
Other shows in the season will be:
Oct. 9 — Cirque Mei, renowned acrobatic troupe and elite circus artists.
From the Hebei Province of China, Cirque Mei features 40 leading circus artists and acrobats who execute many of the most popular Chinese circus routines, including hoops diving, lion dance, collective bicycle skills, flying meteors, and foot juggling with umbrellas.
Nov. 23 — Lee Lessack and Johnny Rodgers perform the hits of legendary folk duo Simon & Garfunkel.
In their Live in Central Park Revisited show, the pair will recreate the historic, iconic concert of Sept. 19, 1981, when more than 500,000 music fans gathered in Central Park to witness Simon & Garfunkel record their first live album.
Dec. 17 — The Texas Tenors and their Deep in the Heart of Christmas show.
April 4 — A Celebration of the Music of Neil Diamond with Matt Vee.
April 29 — Grammy Award winner Michael Bolton and his Symphony Series Tour.
The Celebrity Series for Kids will present the professional musical production “Miss Nelson Has a Field Day” on May 21, with a school-only performance at 10:30 a.m. and a public performance at 6:30 p.m.
The show is based on the book by Harry Allard and James Marshall.
