Monday — Police charged Travis J. Zaborowski, 19, of Lyndora for allegedly breaking into a Fairview Avenue apartment on May 17 and taking a laptop computer, cell phone, about 37 compact discs and two video games.Police later found some of the stolen items at the home of another man, who claimed the defendant had left the items there, according to court documents. Zaborowski is charged with burglary and theft.Monday — Police charged Kashmir M. Wissinger, 18, of Butler and Daniel Lee Gerard, 25, of Oakland Township in connection with a fraud case that came to light May 6 when Wissinger went to the police station to report someone had illegally used her bank debit card.Police learned Gerard had used the card several times May 4 to make two fraudulent deposits and withdrawals totaling $300. Investigators confronted Gerard, who claimed Wissinger also was involved in the alleged scheme, according to court documents.Wissinger later also admitted her involvement, police said. Both defendants are charged with theft and conspiracy. Additionally, Wissinger is charged with false reports to law enforcement authorities.5:32 a.m. Friday — A garbage truck struck and sheared off a utility pole on North Cedar Street. The pole's transformer came down upon the truck, trapping the driver, who was not identified in a police report. An Allegheny Power crew and city firefighters were called to assist. The driver apparently was not hurt.
Tuesday — Police are seeking an unknown driver of an older model Ford Crown Victoria that collided about 6:40 a.m. Monday with a motorcycle at Freeport Road and Center Avenue. Police say the driver and drove away after the crash.Raymond Walters, 35, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, the motorcycle driver, was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.6:26 p.m. Monday — An unknown thief stole a purse that was in a shopping cart at the Wal-Mart store in Butler Commons. Police later recovered the purse, but money was missing.Store surveillance video, police said, showed the suspect is a white woman in her 20s with a thin build. She was wearing a dark knit cap pulled down to her eyes, a pink top and blue jeans. Anyone with information is asked to call police.3:10 p.m. Monday — A compact disc player and MP3 player were among the items taken from a car in a theft at the Family Bowlaway parking lot on Fairground Hill Road. Also taken was a backpack filled with school books, and a Pittsburgh Pirates hat.10:51 a.m. Monday — Vehicles driven by James Gilmore, 39, of Ohio and Andrew Lasichak, 56, of Butler collided on Route 8, south of Picklegate Bridge. Both drivers were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
7:25 a.m. Tuesday — Constance Petrocelli, 31, of Ellwood City, Lawrence County, was hurt when the car she was driving struck the rear truck of a Mack truck at Routes 422 and 528 in Franklin Township. Petrocelli was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for moderate injuries. John McFarland, 57, of Saxonburg was driving the truck.5:35 p.m. Monday — A pickup truck driven by Ricky L. Stroup, 32, of Butler struck the rear of a sport utility vehicle parked on the side of Route 8 in Center Township. Stroup's vehicle continued for about 20 yards and struck another pickup that was parked in a parking lot. Police said Stroup was cited for careless driving.May 27 — Between May 22 and 27 someone stole several pieces of lumber and damaged two vehicles at an unspecified location at Glade Run and Leisie roads in Forward Township. The stolen property was valued at $100 and the damage was estimated at $125.
