CRANBERRY TWP — Cranberry Artists Network will host an exhibit of work by new members in January in the Back Hall Gallery and the Cranberry Township Showcase at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road.

The exhibits will run Jan. 1 to 31.

The following artists were selected during the screening process to be members of the network. They are Larry Brandstetter, David Hull, Brian Payne, Paula Siebieda, Betty Trout, Cami Burns, Alex Carey, Vicki Carson, Mark Gardner, Rob Ivanisin, Lisa McClinsey, Paul Meidinger, Gauri Mengane, Gloria Pinchotti, Bradley Page and Abraham Darlington.

HARMONY — The 12th annual Silvester German New Year celebration in Harmony will feature dinner, a comedic short film, and the annual Christmas tree toss for adults and wreath toss for children.The family-friendly New Year's Eve activities from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday culminate in a ball drop and fireworks display at 6 p.m. (midnight in Germany).Self-guided tours of the Harmony Museum will be available. The Butler Art Center plans to host bands the last Saturday of every month, and four bands are scheduled to play for this coming Saturday Night Special.The bands are Trevolta, of Saxonburg; The Shed Band, from the Freeport/Elderton area; End of Thought, from Beaver; and Better Think Twice from New Brighton.Concerts are also planned for Jan. 25, Feb. 29 and March 28.The Art Center is at 344 S. FRANKLIN — Original art pieces are now being accepted for inclusion in the Nature Art Showcase inside the lobby of the Barrow-Civic Theatre in downtown Franklin during the Franklin on Ice Festival on Feb. 7 and 8.Typically available are 2-D and 3-D items including paintings, sculpture, metal fabrications, fabric arts, jewelry, wearable art, photography, pottery, drawings, wood carving and watercolor paintings.The showcase opens Feb. 7 with a free public reception with the artists from 5 to 7 p.m. and continues on Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.For more information, visit www.nwpagreenways.org.

PITTSBURGH — The Senator John Heinz History Center will host filmmakers from the “The Current War,” a recently-released film about the efforts of George Westinghouse, Thomas Edison, and Nikola Tesla to electrify the world, at 3 p.m. Monday as part of the President's Lecture: War of the Currents.“The Current War” features a star-studded cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon, Katherine Waterston and Tom Holland.More information is available at www.heinzhistorycenter.org.
