Office holders win in Harmony

HARMONY — Borough council will likely remain the same following Tuesday’s primary election. Four seats were up for grabs, and the top vote-getters were all incumbents.

Councilwoman Phyllis Metz, currently in her second term, received the most votes with 94. That was good enough for about 22 percent of the votes cast. Councilman Frank Luek received 92 votes, while Jason Sarver received 88 and David Szakelyhidi received 84.

John Rice, who had served on council for eight years in the past and had hoped for another shot, came in last of the five candidates with 70 votes.

All four winners in Tuesday’s election appeared on the Republican ballot.

No Democrats ran, though 20 write-in votes were cast.

Of the 562 registered Republican and Democratic voters in Harmony, 187 voted in the election for a turnout of about 33 percent.

The four council members will serve four-year terms following confirmation in the general election.
