May we with one voice

My strong belief is that Memorial Day celebrations should be a time when people of all political parties and beliefs unite with one voice to honor our fallen heroes.

On May 22, 2022, I attended a Memorial Day speech at Adams Township Community Park. The beginning of the speaker’s message was excellent as he shared stories of a fallen hero named “Buck.” I wish his speech had ended there. Instead, he began putting down people and positions in government with which he disagrees: the way our country withdrew from Afghanistan, the position by Dr. Fauci regarding masking and vaccines, Trump’s removal from Twitter, etc.

Whether we agree or disagree with the speaker on each of these topics is not the issue. What is important is that we recognize that, on the battlefield, Buck and his comrades were not divided by political parties, and that political speeches have no place in Memorial Day celebrations.

Both Republicans and Democrats have died for our freedom. On Memorial Day, may we with one voice honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, no matter our political affiliation.
