Richard Robert Walker
Richard Robert Walker, 74, of New Wilmington, formerly of Butler passed away Wednesday at the Grove in New Wilmington.
He was born Jan. 14, 1944, in Butler, and was the son of the late Elden Walker and the late Virginia Oesterling Walker.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as an assistant to the admiral of the Atlantic Sub Fleet in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. He was a machine-gunner in the military and was known to play the “Yellow Rose of Texas” on his machine gun.
Richard worked for Etzel Masonry for six years, then began his own business, C&W Builders, Inc., from 1973 to 1999.
He was in a bowling league at Sherwood Lanes and a member of the Pennsylvania Bricklayers Union, where he received his 50th year pin and a watch.
Richard attended Community Alliance Church for 25 years and when the family moved to New Wilmington, he attended New Life Baptist Church.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Richard was a member of American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol; two sons, Rodrichard Walker and his wife, Diane, of Butler, and Scott Walker and his wife, Angel, of Volant; one daughter, Shelly Miller and her husband, Daniel, of New Wilmington; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dennis Walker and his wife, Marty, of Butler, Terry Walker and his wife, Mary, of Butler, and Bradley Walker Sr. and his wife, Veronica, of Butler; three sisters, Sandra Meier and her husband, David, of Butler, Deborah Walker of Butler, and Jyll Clouse and her husband, Thomas, of Chicora; his mother-in-law, Edna Cemate; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Douglas Walker.
WALKER — Friends of Richard Robert Walker, who died Wednesday, April 11, 2018, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, Butler, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis L.
