Monday night's storm toppled trees and power lines throughout Butler County.

Poor weather occurring between 7:15 and 8 p.m. killed the power for about 2,500 West Penn Power customers, according to Jennifer Young, a company spokesman.

The bulk of those customers — about 2,000 — live in the Cabot area. Another 200 live around Butler, and another 300 are near Karns City, Chicora and West Sunbury.

The Cabot outage was the only one of the three during which a power line didn't come down, according to Young. Tree limbs fell onto a line without downing it. The fallen limbs triggered the safety kill switch and simply needed to be investigated before power could be restored around 8:15 p.m., Young said.

In Butler, downed trees damaged power systems and were restored in two stages. Some regained power around 9:45 p.m., while others took until 12:30 a.m. Tuesday

And the northeastern parts of the county were all restored by 2 a.m., Young said.

Butler County Emergency Services' daily report for Monday night included more than 20 incidents of downed power lines or trees in the county.

The National Weather Service of Pittsburgh collected multiple reports of trees down.

A cold front was to blame for the windy weather, according to a meteorologist for the office, along with severe weather across the rest of Pennsylvania and much of Ohio.
