Boy on bike collides with car in Butler

A 10-year-old boy on a bike collided with a vehicle around 9 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Third Avenue and West Cunningham Street.

According to Butler City Police, the boy was not seriously injured but was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

The boy’s injuries originally were reported to Butler County 911 dispatchers as being to the head and knee.

Police said the boy was bicycling westbound on Cunningham with a friend when he hit the front bumper of a vehicle that was trying to inch out into the intersection to make a right-hand turn.

Police said the driver was trying to see past bushes blocking the view of traffic.

It appeared the boy was not able to stop in time, police said.

Butler firefighters assisted at the scene to help direct traffic for about 30 minutes until the boy could be taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital.

Other details were not available Monday night.
