SR Farm Market to open for seasonSLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Community Farmers’ Market will open for the season on Saturday on Route 173 just south of Slippery Rock.It will be open each Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, through the end of October.Organizers say vegetable, herb, fruit and flower seedlings and plants for transplanting will be featured at the beginning of the market season. Vendors also will offer a variety of fresh and preserved foods including grass-finished beef, eggs, goat milk fudge, jellies, breads and other baked goods.Handcrafted items like soaps, lotions, natural home products, candles and jewelry will be available as well.In addition to items for sale, the market schedules live music, informative speakers and displays related to food, gardening, health and sustainable living, and activities for children.On opening day singer-songwriter Brian Tighe will perform.For information, visitors can call 724-374-3276, or visit the market’s Facebook page.New vendors can contact srcfarmersmarket@gmail.com for information.

Jeep Festival holds onto recordThe Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival still holds the world record for hosting the largest Jeep parade.Jeep Beech, a five-day annual event in Daytona Beach, had 2,008 Jeeps in its parade April 24, according to its website jeepbeach.com.The Jeep festival parade in Butler in June 2015 drew 2,420 vehicles from 38 states and Canada. A total of 2,937 Jeeps participated in the weekend event.“Good news for us,” said festival director Patti Jo Lambert. “We got to keep the record.”The 2016 festival, sponsored by the Friends of the Bantam Jeep Association, will be June 10 to 12.
