No bad guys in sight, just an injured goose
BUTLER TWP — An injured goose caused a fowl problem Friday morning for Butler Township Police Sgt. Jim Sasse.
The goose possibly suffered a broken wing or a broken leg and was unable to get off busy Route 8 south around 7 a.m. just north of the Greater Butler Mart.
Sasse utilized a traffic cone to cover the bird's head long enough so he could grab the goose and safely get it off the road.
The officer, who also donned gloves for protection, suffered no bites from the frightened fowl.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission was called and a conservation officer was on his way to take further care of the goose.
“They're going to come and scoop him up,” Sasse said. The bird's fate was not immediately known,
The officer's actions caught the attention of morning commuters, many who slowed down to watch the rescue play out in northbound traffic.
Sasse later admitted he didn't know what to expect when he got the call, which initially came into the county's 911 center as an injured duck.
“This one,” he said, as a grin grew over his face, “was a little different.”
