BLT's 'Psychic' takes twists you won't expect

“The Psychic” was anything but predictable.

From the costumes, to the colorful characters, with twists and turns from the first line to the last, the show kept patrons guessing. A talented cast brought Sam Bobrick’s story to life in a masterful performance opening night.

Danyle Solomon-Verzinskie directed the shenanigans that made up the show. Stellar performances and some cheesy comedy made for an enjoyable whodunit.

It opens with Laura Benson (Kimberly Nutter) looking for our would-be psychic. She had some decisions to make and was hoping Adam Webster (Jim Kasparek) could give her some direction.

The two didn’t initially connect but his “reading” turned out to be somewhat prophetic. She was adorable and seemed to be enjoying her time on stage

The chemistry between the pair was a bit awkward at first, as was scripted, but they soon warmed to each other as much as the writing allowed. The duo was equally hilarious in their banter and wit and their facial expressions were delightful.

When Laura Benson’s husband, Roy (Austin Uram) enters the scene, gasps, then giggles could be heard from the audience.

Uram portrayed the off-the-wall character quite handily. He walked the walk, that’s for sure. His description of his relationship with his mistress, Rita Malone (Shannon Donovan) was vivid.

Donovan entertained with her New York sassy sexy take on the mistress. Her delivery was solid and her comedic chops engaged. Clever dialogue provided her with ample opportunity to amuse the audience.

Her love interest, Johnny Bubbles (Jordan Meals), appears on the scene with a funky accent and suit to boot. He portrayed the perfect farcical Mafioso type Bobrick meant to mock.

As the body count grows, Detective Norris Coslow (Mark Nutter) takes the stage to methodically sort through motives and sort out the mayhem. From his mustache to his blingy phone, the contradictions were classic.

Just when you think you’ve got the story figured out, something interesting takes the plot in another direction. Not even a real psychic could guess the ending.

The epic soundtrack and smartly designed set of a basement apartment cleverly set the tone for the story.

The show is produced by Bob Meals.
