Man found with meth, marijuana and hash
State police filed felony drug charges Monday against a Butler Township man after they found about two ounces of meth in his vehicle.
Adam W. Mutz, 38, is charged with felony drug sales, as well as misdemeanor counts of drug possession, marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia possession and DUI. Following Mutz’s arraignment Monday morning by District Judge Sue Haggerty, he was taken to Butler County Prison where he remains in lieu of $40,000 bond.
According to charging documents, police entered the parking lot of Sheetz, 356 New Castle Road, Butler Township, where they spotted a man, later identified as Mutz, slumped over in the driver’s seat of a still-running vehicle.
“I approached the driver’s side of the vehicle and through the window, I observed multiple items of paraphernalia, a plastic bag of marijuana and a piece of paper with a white crystalline substance on top of it on the center console,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.
Police said they woke Mutz and placed him in handcuffs while they searched his clothing.
Police said they found a plastic bag containing approximately two ounces of methamphetamine in his front pocket.
Police said field sobriety tests then showed Mutz was impaired, and he was arrested for DUI, as well as the drug-related offenses.
According to police, Mutz denied there being other drugs in the vehicle and granted them permission to search it. Police said a search turned up a combined 30 grams of marijuana, which is a little more than one ounce, and eight grams of hash, which is a condensed and concentrated form of marijuana.
A preliminary hearing for Mutz has been scheduled for May 12 before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
