EVANS CITY — Those attending the annual Oktoberfest celebration this weekend can shop for crafts and items from direct sales vendors, listen to music and grab a bite to eat while helping out the EDCO Park swimming pool.

New at this year's Oktoberfest is the vendor event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Evans City VFW Post 499, 408 N. Washington St.

Kim Montani said proceeds from the sale will go to the EDCO Park Authority to help pay for the renovation of the park's swimming pool.

She said in addition to several direct-sales vendors who will sell items like purses, jewelry and essential oils, craft vendors, food vendors including a barbecue booth, and live music will liven up the affair.

The music will be provided from 1 to 3 p.m. by Tony Skander

A ticket auction and a 50/50 raffle also will be available.

Montani said 16 vendors will be set up inside the VFW and 13 will be set up outside.

“I have a lot of friends in direct sales who do their own crafts, and we've all been talking about going to vendor shows,” Montani said. “Then we said, 'Let's have our own show.'”

Montani, who sells jewelry, is coordinating the event with her friend, Melanie Richter, who sells essential oils.

The pair will hold another vendor event after Thanksgiving, with proceeds going to a veteran's organization.

“We wanted to keep it local,” Montani said.

At the Oktoberfest vendor event, information also will be available regarding joining the VFW.

“We are starting a ladies auxiliary at the VFW, so we will have applications for that also,” she said.John Rogers, president of the EDCO authority, said he truly appreciates Montani's generosity.“It amazes me that people are stepping up in the community and realizing just how important the park, and especially the pool, are to Evans City,” Rogers said. “We are looking forward to that being a great event.”Montani said everyone should check out the vendor event on Sunday at the VFW while they are at Oktoberfest.“Come have an experience you won't forget and get some bargains too,” she said.
