Adams OKs next step for sports park

ADAMS TWP — A proposed multiuse recreational facility got one step closer Monday night to breaking ground after the township's supervisors approved preliminary plans for its second phase.

Valencia Sports Park, a proposed 27.4 acre site, will be constructed on the southern side of Route 228 near the border of Adams and Middlesex townships. About 3 acres will be in Middlesex Township.

The site's first phase, approved by the Adams supervisors in June, will include a golf driving range, batting cages and a concession stand. The second phase will include three baseball fields and a miniature golf course.

The supervisors approved the second phase of the sports park under the condition that any changes in plans would have to be approved by both the supervisors and the township's planning commission.

Michael Vale, a project engineer with Morris Knowles and Associates, said preliminary cost estimates aren't available yet. He also said construction likely wouldn't start until next spring at the earliest.

The supervisors questioned Vale about a stipulation requested by Middlesex Township that would create an access road from the sports park into the new Weatherburn Heights development.

Vale said that request is acceptable to Valencia Sports Park owner Paul Adametz but that a small strip of land between the two plots of land is owned by a third party.

Vale said he is unsure if that third party would allow such an access road into the sports park.
