Grove City swimmers dominate District 10 meet
Members of Grove City’s boys swimming team spent a lot of time atop the medal stand at the District 10 Class AA championship meet, held Friday and Saturday at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The Eagles won nine of the 11 events and coasted to the district team title with 499 points. Fairview placed a distant second with 261.
Leading the way was senior Austin Wilson, who set a meet record by winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.81 seconds. He also won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.18.
Other individual titles earned for the Eagles went to Rockwell Pokrant (butterfly, 500 freestyle), Thomas Somora (breaststroke) and Marcus Swartfager (100 freestyle).
Grove City also captured all three relays, including two more meet records in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle.
With the top two finishers in each event punching their ticket to the state meet, Ben McKnight and Charlie Nesbit extended their seasons by being runner-up in the 500 freestyle and breaststroke, respectively.
In the girls’ meet, Grove City’s Emma Wilson won the 50 freestyle. Kimmi Wendelschaefer made states by placing second in the breaststroke and Slippery Rock’s Tabitha Donaldson did so in the 100 freestyle.
