The portion of Butler County without state representation will soon regain voices in Harrisburg.

The retirement of one state senator and the resignation of a state representative left a section of eastern Butler County without a voice for much of this year. Within the next week, replacements for both will take office.

Marci Mustello, the Republican elected to replace Brian Ellis in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives' 11th District, is scheduled to take her oath of office at 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release.

Joe Pittman, the Republican elected to replace Don White in the state Senate's 41st District, plans to take his oath of office Monday, according to the district's Harrisburg office. The Senate's session that day begins at 1 p.m., and Pittman's swearing in will take place sometime during the session.

Mustello's 11th District includes Butler, Clearfield, Connoquenessing, Donegal, Fairview, Jefferson, Oakland and Summit townships, plus Butler City and the boroughs of Chicora, Connoquenessing, East Butler, Fairview, Karns City, Petrolia, Prospect and Saxonburg.

Pittman's 41st District includes Allegheny, Buffalo, Clearfield, Clinton, Concord, Donegal, Fairview, Jefferson, Middlesex, Oakland, Parker, Summit, Venango, Washington and Winfield townships, plus the boroughs of Bruin, Cherry Valley, Chicora, East Butler, Eau Claire, Fairview, Karns City, Petrolia and Saxonburg.

In Butler County, ballots for both special elections contained a slight error. The candidates were listed without their party affiliations.

However, a spokesman for the Department of State confirmed that unless a candidate files a complaint, nothing would be done to correct the issue. Both losing candidates have indicated they are not interested in filing a challenge.

Mustello won about 57 percent of the district's vote over Democrat Sam Doctor.

Pittman won about 57 percent of Butler County votes over Democrat Susan Boser. Districtwide, Pittman won about 66 percent of votes.
