Soon-to-be graduates of Karns City High School make their way to the field Tuesday night for an outdoor ceremony in which 127 students would receive diplomas.

KARNS CITY — Karns City High School graduates got to experience an outdoor ceremony Tuesday night under a sultry but rain-free sky.

“It's a bittersweet moment,” graduate Hanna Bossinger said. “I'm excited to start a new chapter, but it's sad to leave the people that have been with me for so long.”

Karns City graduated 127 students Tuesday night. The sun wasn't shining. It wasn't raining either, and little detracted from the excitement and thoughts the graduates had toward the future.

Bossinger will be heading to Westminster College in the fall to pursue a dual-major in vocal performance and musical education.

“Really, singing is my passion,” she said.

Graduate Brittany Wolfe took photos with her family in the parking lot overlooking the field where she would later take a seat commemorating her achievement.

Wolfe said she was excited about her future, which she said she hopes will take her to a career in therapy or health care. She said she felt prepared by the teachers who she came to adore.

“They treated me like an adult, that was the main thing,” Wolfe said.

Devon Seybert said he was glad to be wrapping up school. He said he was getting the itch to pursue life outside of the education system, but he also won't forget his time spent alongside his classmates.

“It was nice because I got to meet new people, and I made a lot of friends,” he said.

Seybert said he hasn't decided what to pursue just yet, but he'll manage his life and overcome obstacles based on the skills he acquired in school.

“Life throws weird curveballs at you,” Seybert said.

During the ceremony, Ed Conto, high school principal, got to say goodbye to his final graduating class. Conto is retiring after this year.

Superintendent Eric Ritzert told the students that graduation acknowledges an important milestone in their lives and their hard work.

“Today, you have reached the culmination of your time as a student at Karns City,” Ritzert said. “I wish you all the very best on what your future endeavors might be.”
