Newcomers among Prospect winners
PROSPECT — One former member and two newcomers earned Republican nominations Tuesday for three available four-year terms on borough council.
Eric Hilliard led the race with 107 votes. Paul Braunstein got 87 votes, Ed Robinson got 67 votes, Nicholas Vaccarello got 64 votes and there were 8 Republican write-in votes.
The three Republican nominees will face off against two Democrats, incumbent Mary Lou Harmon and newcomer Chad E. Green Sr., in the general election in November.
Harmon received 47 votes, Green received 35 votes and there were 3 write-in Democrat votes.
Robinson served on council for four years, but has been off the council for the past two years.
“I’m very happy about it I hope to be able to proceed and get on council again to finish what I set out to do for the four years I was on there,” he said.
He said he would like to address sewer and water issues as well as sidewalks and roads.
Paul Braunstein, a construction manager who is new to politics, said he ran at the suggestion of his friend and neighbor, Ed Robinson.
“I hope to try to make life here in Prospect better,” he said.
In talking to a few residents he heard that taxes and sewers are the main issues people are concerned with, he said.
“He’s just a very knowledgeable guy, we’ve done things together in the neighborhood. It seems like him and I click,” Robinson said about Braunstein.
Hilliard could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.
Council Vice President David Stellfox and Councilman Peter Bryan did not submit petitions to appear on either primary ballot.
