Annual spring show and sale starts on Friday

Harmony artist Bill Perry entered this watercolor portrait “Marty” in the AABC spring show and sale, which opens Friday at The Art Center.

The Associated Artists of Butler County will open the annual spring show and sale on Friday with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Art Center, 344 S. Main St.

Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.

This year's show features an unusual array of media and subject material, according to AABC President Paul Scanlon.

“It's not just about flowers and watercolor paintings this year; we have quite a variety of entries in every media category, including over 20 portraits, several silver gelatin prints by longtime member Bill Cooper, and some very interesting fiber/3-D sculpture mixed media pieces,” Scanlon said.

More than 100 pieces will be on display, representing the work of 40 artists.

In addition to the main exhibit, the AABC Portrait Club members are exhibiting their work in The Members Gallery.

An awards ceremony begins at 8 p.m. Friday to announce the winners in each category, as well as the Mary Hulton Phillips Memorial Best of Show Award and the Evelyn Nicholas Memorial Award for Best Portrait.

The show and sale continues through June 15.

Upcoming events at The Art Center include art classes, the photography show opening June 22, and the nature and wildlife show opening Aug. 3.

Regular gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and noon to 9 p.m. Fridays. Admission is free.
