James Robert “Bob” Williams

James Robert “Bob” Williams of Greenville died Thursday following a short illness. He was 102.

He was born June 17, 1916, in Butler, the son of the late Oras N. Williams and Eva G. (Kennedy) Williams.

Mr. Williams graduated from Penn High School (Greenville) in 1933 and Thiel College in 1946, following service in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On June 3, 1950, he married Eleanor G. (Rodgers) Williams, who passed away in 2009. They had two sons, the late James R. Williams Jr. and John R. Williams of Seven Fields.

During the 1950s, Mr. Williams worked at the family's Greenville jewelry store, Williams and Son, and then at the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad.

Following his retirement in 1979, he “never put his feet up” as he often said, working as an aerial photographer for the Department of Agriculture for the next 17 years and volunteering for numerous organizations well into his 90s.

In addition to his son and daughter-in-law, Pam, Mr. Williams is survived by his foster son, Tom Spargo, and wife, Brenda, of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren Tara Williams and Marc Williams and his wife, Megan; his foster grandchildren, Amber and Zachary; as well as loving nieces and nephews.

WILLIAMS — Family and friends of James Robert “Bob” Williams, who died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, will be received from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Loutzenhiser-Jordan Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Westminster Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, with the Rev. David A. Dobi, pastor of the church, officiating.Greenville VFW Post 3374 will render military honors at the conclusion of the service.F&AM Eureka Lodge 290 will have a Masonic service in the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.Burial will be in Northside Cemetery, Butler.Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church 323 Main St., Greenville, PA 16125 or to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.Visitors are welcome to sign the online guest book at www.loutzenhiserfuneralhome.com
